our adoption process

We always strive for transparency and want potential families to understand how our application and adoption process works. Below you can find our step-by-step process.

1. Submit an Application

Tell us you're interested! All applications are reviewed to ensure a family is the right fit for a specific animal. We often receive several applications for one animal and, unfortunately, we can only pick one home. We rely on information from the foster on the best fit for that particular animal based on their experiences with the pet. You may be a perfect match for the animal you're applying for or we may find that your application is an even better fit for another animal in our care.

2. Background Checks

Peace Love and Paws Rescue completes a criminal history background check and a veterinary check to ensure animals are in safe hands. You may receive a phone call from your veterinary office asking for permission to speak with a rescue. Once you provide clearance, we ask general questions about the care of your current or previous animals.

3. Phone Interview

Should your application be selected and your background checks return clear, an adoption counselor will reach out to you and discuss the animal (or another!) that you applied for. The conversation allows us to learn more about you and your family and provides you a chance to ask us questions too!

4. Home Visit

A home visit is required to ensure your home is safe for the animal. This may occur virtually through one of several platforms (i.e., Zoom, Google Meet, Facebook Messenger) or in person. Home visits are generally scheduled at the time of the phone interview.

5. Meet & Greet

Meet and Greets are our favorite part! This is the chance for you to meet the animal. This is generally done at the foster's home as this is the space the animal is most comfortable in. Should you and the animal fall in love with each other, we can plan for the adoption!
